Frequently asked questionsYour questions, answered
Everything people ask us before their first class — about safety, cost, Parkinson's, and how it all works. Don't see your question? Call 747-234-1115 and ask Coach Dean directly.
Getting started
Is the first class really free?
Yes. Your first class at any of our four locations is completely free, with no obligation to continue. Call 747-234-1115 or use the contact form to schedule it.
Do I need boxing experience?
No. Most of our members had never thrown a punch before their first class. Our coaches teach you everything, at your own pace.
Will anyone hit me?
Never. Boxing for Balance is 100% non-contact. You punch pads, bags, or the air — nobody ever punches back. There is no sparring and no fighting.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable clothing, supportive shoes, and water. We handle the gloves and equipment.
Is it safe if I have balance problems?
Balance problems are the reason our program exists. Every class is supervised, every exercise can be modified, and everything can be done seated or standing. If you have a medical condition, check with your doctor first — then come try a class.
Am I too old for this?
We coach people from their 50s past 100. Our assisted living members range from 62 to over 100 years old. The exercises meet you exactly where you are.
Parkinson's questions
What stage of Parkinson's is this for?
All stages. Coaches adapt every exercise to each person's ability — some members train standing, others fully seated. Over the last decade Coach Dean has worked with more than 500 people with Parkinson's, across every stage.
Does boxing actually help Parkinson's?
Boxing-style training targets the exact challenges Parkinson's creates — balance, movement size, reaction time, and doing two things at once. Several studies report improvements in balance and quality of life. We wrote an honest review of the research on our blog.
Can my spouse or caregiver come?
Yes — caregivers and family members are encouraged to attend, and many participate right alongside their boxer.
How often should I come to class?
Most members see the best results from 2–3 sessions per week. Exercise guidelines for Parkinson's recommend at least 150 minutes of exercise weekly — classes plus home practice get you there.
Locations & scheduling
Where are your classes?
Four locations: Santa Monica (1828 Lincoln Blvd), Lake Balboa (17228 Saticoy St), Woodland Hills (20951 Burbank Blvd), and Thousand Oaks (1714 Newbury Rd) — serving Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, and Ventura County.
How do I schedule my free class?
Call 747-234-1115 — Coach Dean answers — or send the contact form and we'll reach out to find the right class for you.
Online video program
How much does the online program cost?
Your first month is $9.99, then $99 per month. You can cancel anytime, and there is a 7-day money-back guarantee — if it's not for you, we refund your money, no questions asked.
Can I do the online workouts seated?
Yes. Every workout includes seated and standing options, and you can switch anytime during a session.
What do I need to follow the workouts?
A phone, tablet, or computer — and a sturdy chair for seated options. That's it. New workouts are added twice a week.
Is the online program only for Parkinson's?
It's designed around Parkinson's needs — balance, coordination, strength, and confidence — which also makes it a great fit for any senior who wants to stay active safely at home.
Assisted living & memory care communities
Do you come to our community?
Yes. Coach Dean brings the equipment and runs the entire class on-site — your staff doesn't set up, plan, or run anything. The first demo class is free.
Can residents in wheelchairs participate?
Yes. Every exercise adapts to seated participants, including residents in wheelchairs. We've coached residents from 62 to over 100 years old.
Do you run memory care classes?
Yes — we run dedicated memory care classes, adapted for the residents in the room.
Private training & certification
How does private training work?
One-on-one coaching three ways: at our gym, in your home, or virtually. Your coach tailors every session to your goals and ability. Call 747-234-1115 to talk through pricing and scheduling.
Who is the certification course for?
Trainers, coaches, and senior-fitness professionals who want to teach the Boxing for Balance method. It's already in use in the field — Emerald Heights, a senior community in Redmond, Washington, runs our program with a coach Dean certified. Request details through the certification page.
